Summer Services
There will be no services on August 6th and 13th. The August 20th and August 27th services will start at 10:00 a.m. The August 20th service will include Granite Hill (see announcement below). The September 3rd service will be a picnic at 10:30 a.m. at Rotary Park

Aaron Dimoff to perform at Annesley – August 26th
Renowned local Bass Baritone of Opera, Classical, Soloist of major choral works, Aaron Dimoff will be performing August 26th at Annesley United Church. Aaron has performed in opera and choral performances in Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, Vancouver, Toronto, Hamilton, London, Kincardine in lead roles. In his teenage years he was involved with Owen Sound in music theatre doing musicals. Aaron is returning home to provide an evening with the classics including opera arias, sacred music and music theatre solos. Plan to attend on August 26th , 7pm. Tickets are available at the Annesley office, Susan’s Deli, and Artemesia Cheese. You can also buy tickets online HERE: annesley.events $20 in advance (children under12 free), 25 at the door, or $15 for a ticket to watch online.
Concert August 19th – Granite Hill Bluegrass
Based out of southwestern Ontario, Granite Hill is a band that includes members with many years of experience in bluegrass as well as other musical genres. They entertain with a mixture of contemporary and traditional bluegrass material, including harmony vocals, dynamic instrumentals, and even a few numbers imported from country or folk. The Dimoffs are long time friends with Doug McNaughton. He is a master fiddle teacher who has taught the likes of Ashley MacIsaac, Natalie MacMaster , The Becketts Tyler and Linsey and also many Nashville fiddlers. Reserve the dates of August 19th for a concert at 7 pm and they will also join us for Aug.20th Sunday worship. • Doug McNaughton is a master fiddle teacher and contest judge with extensive experience playing fiddle for country acts such as Marie Bottrell and Terry Sumsion.
• Norm Tellier is a veteran player in groups Clean Sweep, Northern City Limits, General Store and the Commercial Bluegrass Band. He is a two-time recipient of the CCBA “Mandolin Player of the Year” award, and sings most of the tenor harmony.
• Steve Greer has over 40 years of experience performing and recording with various artists. Steve’s 5-string banjo style compliments the Granite Hill ensemble, and he adds baritone harmony vocals on many numbers as well.
• Al Draper is one of the strongest lead singers in Canadian bluegrass today. He brings many years of experience on guitar and has a passion for music and bluegrass harmony. Al also handles the band’s sound requirements.
• Bill Carson has played bass in bluegrass bands Blackwell Sideroad and Northern City Limits in years past. His clear lead and harmony vocals add depth to the Granite Hill repertoire.
HELP WANTED!! – SUNDAY SCHOOL
Whether Sunday School is to resume, as advertised on September 10th remains up to you. Yes, we are in urgent need of help, but before that we need those interested in this endeavour to meet in August. We need to re-examine our vision and determine the availability of help, in the form of leadership and weekly support. A healthy dose of inspiration would also prove invaluable. Online Auction – October 6th, 2023
The online auction will be held on October 6th through Rockford Auction Centre. We will begin receiving auction donations on Tuesday, September 5th during normal office hours (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) up until September 22nd. Viewing of auction items will be available on Wednesday, September 27th. All donations must be accompanied by a donor sheet available from the office with a full description. Pick up of items will be on Saturday, October 7th. Religious and Cultural Heritage Destruction in Tigray, Ethiopia
Since a brutal, genocidal, largely civil war started in Ethiopia in 2020, irreplaceable cultural icons have been destroyed, stolen or sold to private collectors around the world. Moreover, the guardians of this priceless heritage, the priests and monks who live and work in monasteries across Tigray, have been cruelly targeted and killed by the thousands. As virtually all of the traceable heritage and culture of Ethiopia originated in Tigray, this conflict is ostensibly a war on Ethiopia by Ethiopians, and the mass killings and sexual gender based violence are meant to erase thousands of years of ethnicity across Tigray.
“Tigray is a land of precious heritages with thousands of monasteries and churches. These are Tigray heritage icons and their historical objects and sacred items have been intentionally targeted, and represent a grave dishonoring of cultural values and works of great beauty.” Dr. Hagos Abraha, Philologist, post doctoral researcher at the Studies for Manuscript Culture, University of Hamburg.
“Ethiopia is destroying its own culture by destroying the Tigrayan heritage.” Dr. Michael Gervers, Professor of History, Expert in Ethiopian Art and Culture, University of Toronto.

Brenda & Peter Dimoff: CDs available due to popular demand
We have all been enjoying the music of Brenda and Peter Dimoff during the Sunday services. Many people have asked where they can get a copy of their CD, so Brenda and Peter have graciously responded by producing copies of the CD, as a fund raiser for Annesley! For a donation of $20 or more to Annesley, you receive a copy of this wonderful CD. They will be available each Sunday, or at the office during the week.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is an important part of Annesley’s outreach. Warm and cozy shawls are given to those of the congregation and community who are bereaved or seriously ill. The appropriate yarn must be purchased. If you would like to help, put your donation in an envelope marked Prayer Shawl and your name and send it to the church office. If you know anyone in the community who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl, please call the office at 519-986-3019.
